The notorious Gilles de Rais, whose story remains somewhat of a mystery. He was one of the most famous people to be accused of working under Satanic influences.

Some years after Joan of Arc´s exploits and execution, one of her comrades in arms, Gilles de Rais, was accused by the state of, among other things, being possessed by the Evil One and of killing 140 children under this satanic influence.
Gilles admitted to the childrens´murders but insisted that he acted in accordance with his own imaginations and was not inspired by the Devil, an important distinction in those times.

Gilles confessed to killing the children and begged the mercy of the court and the forgiveness of their parents. In 1440 he was found guilty of both crimes, that of murder and also of diabolical inspiration, and was sentenced to be hanged and then burnt.
His execution took place nine years after Joan´s death.
