Madame and monsignor toilette

Madame toilette

We all know it very well, when you have to go, you have to go and we have public toilets for that. But what if we lived in 18th century when public toilet was not an option?

During second half of 18th century till the end of 19th century big European cities offered quite interesting service. Madame or monsignor toilette.

Madame and monsignor toilette were equipped with a quite smelly wooden buckets and huge leather coat.

You could sit on the bucket in the middle of the market. Madame toilette would cover you with leather coat so only your head would stick out.
Some of them were wearing a mask as well so they can be protected from odor coming from the buckets.
