Japan committed plenty of war crimes during second World War but the Unit 731 experiments were the most brutal of all.

Shiro Ishii (1892 - 1959) was a surgeon general, microbiologist and director of Unit 731. Main task of this military unit was testing biological and chemical weapons involving forced and frequently lethal human experimentation.
Shiro Ishii did not hesitate to use thousands of Chinese and Korean prisoners for his frightening experiments.

After Japan was defeated in 1945 the Unit 731 was dismissed. But Ishii and other members of this biological warfare unit of Japanese Imperial Army escaped the death sentence.
With cold war coming The USA shown their interest in all Ishii's work because human experiments are against the law in America.
